PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A 70-year-old North Providence man has been released on $3,000 bond following his arrest Friday on charges of attempting to interfere with federal IRS laws and threatening a federal official.
Kenneth M. Delashmutt was taken into custody after a scuffle with armed federal agents who came to arrest him at his apartment at 2064 Mineral Spring Ave. at 7:30 Friday morning, according to North Providence police.
After being taken to the ground and handcuffed, he was initially taken to the North Providence police station where, according to officials, he lay down on the floor and refused to answer any questions until he was turned over to federal agents.
The nature of the alleged threats could not be obtained as of Wednesday, but a U.S. District Court Magistrate released Delashmutt, who describes himself in a newsletter as a consumer debt consultant, on bond pending another federal court hearing on Oct. 8.
North Providence police said after Delashmutt's arrest they conducted a sweep of his apartment and seized a shotgun leaning up against the wall inside the front entrance.
