A 17-year-old developmentally disabled girl who was last seen Monday afternoon leaving a Medfield, Ma., library with a man she may have met online, was found "safe and completely unharmed" Thursday morning walking down a Coventry street with the same man, say Medfield police.
Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney says police in Rhode Island and Massachusetts are investigating what led to the disappearance of Brittany Thompson. No charges have been filed, he said.
Meaney said video taken in the Medfield library showed the girl at a computer terminal about 4:30 p.m. when the man approached. "We don't know if they had ever met or spoken to each other before," said Meaney, "but she left with him voluntarily."
Because the girl's disability there was some concern "she might not fully have understood the situation she put herself in," Meaney said.
Thursday morning in Coventry, someone observed the pair walking down a street, Meaney said. Something about the situation looked awry, Meaney said, and that person called Coventry police, who confronted the two.
Meaney said the girl's parents were reunited with their daughter in Coventry.
The Associated Press also quoting Meany saying, "I want to emphasize the fact that she is safe, she is unharmed, she is OK.,"
It's about 50 miles from Medfield to Coventry.
