PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The price for gasoline has fallen three cents in the last week, according to AAA Southern New England.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.699 at self-service pumps in the Ocean State, down six cents in the last month, according to AAA's weekly survey.
A similar survey Friday by the state Office of Energy Resources found the price at $3.76.
A year ago, Rhode Island drivers were paying $3.989 per gallon, 29 cents more than the current average, AAA says.
AAA said the average price in Rhode Island is 18 cents higher than the national average of $3.519.
American drivers should get used to relatively high prices, if they haven't already, according to AAA.
On Tuesday, the national average price will reach 1,000 consecutive days above $3.00 per gallon, for the first time on record. AAA says that average isn't likely to dip below $3.00 per gallon for another 1,000 days, unless there's a major recession.
The streak started on Dec. 23, 2010.
AAA's survey found a 34-cent range in prices, from a low of $3.569 to a high of $3.909.
