PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Thousands of people recovering from substance abuse rallied with their supporters Saturday at the downtown Roger Williams Memorial, dancing, singing, eating and celebrating their ongoing recovery from drug addiction.
The "Rally 4 Recovery" kicked off around 1:30 p.m. The downtown park brimmed with people, concessions and enthusiasm.
"I really love this," said 25-year-old Ashley Catlow, of Pawtucket. "For them to make it a celebration, a celebration of life, it's great."
At 7 p.m., the rally's grand marshal, former congressman Patrick Kennedy, is expected to lead a procession to the evening's "Waterfire" event.
