WICKFORD, R.I. -- "Everybody's floating," reported fisherman Trip Whilden, 40, who owns two boats at the Wickford Town Dock at the end of Main Street.
"We got lucky," he said as a virtual parade of vehicles toured the parking lot for a view of the harbor. "Everybody that was prepared did fine."
The town had already replaced about seven dock boards that had floated off their nails, and the new boards looked like yellowed ivory piano keys randomly spaced on an all-gray piano keyboard.
Another casualty of the storm, he said, "I lost my 6-gallon bucket. Those are not easy to come by" and just the right size.
Doc and Sandra Briggs of Exeter's Slocum area and their grandson, Bryce Briggs, 15, a third generation fisherman, said the Wickford situation "is nice compared to Point Judith," where Bryce's father keeps their boat. "They got shellacked," Doc Briggs said.
"My son fell through the dock" at Galilee, she said, "up to his waist."
"I've seen worse," said Doc, who retired after 57 years as a fisherman.
