PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- State officials and others will gather in Providence to remember the life of former Secretary of State Susan Farmer, the first woman elected to statewide office in Rhode Island.
Farmer died last week following a long battle with cancer. She was 71.
The 11 a.m. funeral will be held at Grace Church.
Among those planning to attend are Governor Chafee.
Farmer was a Republican and served two terms as secretary of state from 1983 to 1987.
She later led Rhode Island PBS for nearly two decades.
