PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Department of Health has lifted the boil water advisory that has been in place since Sunday for more than 25,000 customers of the Kent County Water Authority.
The advisory was lifted after the latest samples taken from the authority's water on Tuesday tested negative for E. coli, a bacteria in human and animal waste that can cause a variety of illnesses. It was announced in a media release sent out just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The boil-water order was put in place Sunday after a sample taken from a storage tank in West Warwick tested positive for E. coli.
