PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence police have charged three more young men in connection with the murder of 12-year-old Aynis Vargas Felix and the shooting of three women in the Hartford Park housing projects in June.
Deputy Chief Thomas F. Oates III said that the indictments will be announced at a news conference Thursday afternoon.
This makes five men who are charged as suspects in this case.
In July, Branden Castro, 21, of 71 Herschel St., and Ricardo Vasquez, 20, of 1141 Elmwood Ave., were charged with murder, murder conspiracy and a host of other assault and weapons counts in the shooting of Vargas, an honor roll sixth-grader, and three women at the party outside apartments at 256 Hartford Ave.
The police have said that the shooting stemmed from a violent gang feud between the Hartford Soldiers and the Harriet Street gang in the city's South Side. The two men arrested in July are from Harriet Street, according to the police.
The police said that Vargas and the women just happened to get caught in a long-simmering feud between warring gangs in Hartford Park on the west side and Harriet Street in South Providence.
