Warwick police release men after victim of beating, robbery refuses to press charges

WARWICK, R.I. -- The Warwick police released two men they arrested this morning after a neighbor called to say a man at 40 Herbert St. had been assaulted and robbed because the victim refused to file charges.

The two Massachusetts men are known to police around New England for their crimes accordign to Col. Stephen McCartney.

While on their way to the home police saw the black GMC, in which the suspects were said to be traveling. Officer Javier Cabreja stopped a vehicle matching the description on Highland Avenue, less than a mile away from the reported address. They men had items belonging to the victim.

But the victim, who told police the men threatened him with a knife, beat him up and robbed him, refused to press charges.

McCartney said the man told police he had met one of his assailants online through Craig's List.
