MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- State Education Commissioner Deborah A. Gist and a teacher from Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy will jump from a plane Saturday to highlight the importance of reading.
Earlier this year, Gist issued the "Dive into a Book! Summer Reading Challenge," which challenged students to complete all of their summer reading goals and earn the opportunity for an educator from their school to jump with the commissioner.
The only teacher who accepted the challenge was Drew Madden, math and data coordinator with Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy.
The event will take place Saturday at 3 p.m. at Skydive Newport, 211 Airport Access Rd., Middletown.
