PROVIDENCE _ Frank ``Bobo'' Marrapese, one of the state's most notorious and feared mob figures, was sentenced to nine years in state prison on Monday after he pleaded guilty to seven counts of racketeering conspiracy, extortion conspiracy and criminal usury.

Marrapese, 70, who was on parole for murder at the time of his arrest in May 2011, exhibited no emotion as he stood before Superior Court Judge William E. Carnes Jr. for sentencing. He was released from the Adult Correctional Institutions in May 2008 after serving more than 20 years in prison for killing mob associate Richard ``Dickie'' Callei in the Acorn Social Club on Federal Hill.

His bullet-ridden body was discovered near a golf course in Rehoboth, Mass. on March 15, 1975, but the slaying remained unsolved for nearly a decade.

Once paroled from prison, Marrapese returned to his old ways. In May of 2011, he and 24 others were arrested for participating in a large-scale gambling ring that generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal sports betting.

Several other members of the New England mob, include Edward C. Lato and Alfred ``Chippy'' Scivola Jr., were arrested and indicted for their roles in the ring. Both men are currently serving time in federal prison for shaking down Providence strip clubs.
