PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The city of Providence has launched a web portal designed to give residents easier access to information about open meetings and public officials.
The "Open Meetings Portal" aims to be a one-stop site where residents can get meeting agendas, minutes, and attendance records and voting histories for city councilors and members of other boards and commissions. Residents can also register to get meeting notices for the council and other public bodies.
The site, at openmeetings.providenceri.com, represents a collaboration of the city clerk, council and Mayor Angel Taveras.
City officials said Wednesday the portal was developed following a recommendation from a special commission looking at ways Providence could use technology to engage residents.
Thursday's council meeting will be the first to use the new portal.
