PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island's unemployment rate of 9.2 percent is the second-worst in the country, behind only Nevada's 9.3 percent, according to the latest jobs data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Rhode Island is the only New England state among the Top 10 worst unemployment rates. It's one of only two New England states, along with Connecticut, with rates higher than the national unemployment rate of 7.3 percent.
Here's how the rest of the region fares: Connecticut, 7.9 percent; Massachusetts, 7.2 percent; Maine, 6.7 percent; New Hampshire, 5.1 percent; and Vermont, 4.5 percent.
The lowest unemployment rates in the country are in North Dakota, 2.7 percent; South Dakota, 3.7 percent; and Nebraska, 3.9 percent.
