WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- A rescue for "pit bull-type dogs" has adopted the Woonsocket Animal Shelter as the recipient for its annual holiday drive.
The shelter, at 9 Cumberland Hill Rd, will receive a Kuranda Bed for each dog, plus enough bully sticks, bones, collars, leashes, treats, and holiday toys to help the shelter for several months.
The beds, which resemble a small trampoline, are usually too expensive for shelters, say the rescue organization's founders, Mark Stoutzenberger and Heather Gutshall,
The organization, known as Handsome Dan's Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs, raises donations from around the world on its Facebook page. It also operates a website.
Stoutzenberger and Gutshall said they chose the Woonsocket Animal Shelter after visiting last week. They said they were impressed and moved by "the dedication of the staff, cleanliness of the facility, and overall calming energy of the crowded shelter." the donations will be delivered Tuesday.
