PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence man says he was robbed in a Silver Lake barbershop Wednesday afternoon while a crowd blocked the storefront windows, the police said.
Gbarbo Toe, 26, told the police he was at a barbershop at 461 Plainfield St. around 5 p.m. Wednesday when two men walked in wearing black masks to conceal their faces, Lt. Timothy O'Hara said. One of the men, Toe told the police, demanded his wallet, threatening him with a gun while the other began to choke him. The first man then pistol-whipped him, Toe said, opening a gash in his head.
Toe told the authorities he had $500 to $600 in his wallet.
He was treated at Roger Williams Medical Center.
A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday.
