Roy Carpenter's Beach in South Kingstown is a place where Rhode Island families have gathered for many generations. Three of the 377 cottages at Roy Carpenter's Beach were washed out to sea, and dozens of others were damaged by Sandy, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the die-hards who love the place. Above, Hope's House, damaged by Sandy, but still intact, is where Nancy Carpenter Thoresen, 66, and her son Rob Thoresen, 34, grew up. View the photo gallery.
