PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The labor union representing workers at the Twin River slot parlor says it has ratified a new five-year contract.
The contract, affecting more than 200 members of Local 217 of Unite HERE, will increase hourly earnings for cooks, cleaners and warehouse workers by 12 percent over the life of the agreement, according to the union.
Twin River has also agreed to increase its pension contribution by more than 6 percent annually, and more employees will qualify for health insurance, the union said.
The announcement comes as Rhode Islanders are set to consider on Election Day whether or not to allow the former dog racing track to become a full scale casino with table games such as blackjack and roulette.
