Today in RI history: Iway gets a test-run by former governor

A year ago today:
As 2011 comes to a close, job growth is forecast to be weaker than expected, meaning lower economic recovery over the next two years, both nationally and in Rhode Island. The housing market will probably worsen next year, with an expected decline in house prices and a rise in foreclosures.

5 years ago today:
Gov. Don Carcieri becomes the first motorist to cross the Providence River on a new segment of the Iway, which ranks as the largest road construction project in Rhode Island.

25 years ago today:
The thermometer hits 77 degrees, highest ever for a Nov. 4, topping by two degrees the old standard, established in 1975. The average high temperature for this time of year is 56 degrees.
