PROVIDENCE -- The state Health Department has identified a third Rhode Island case linked to the nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak.
A Warwick man in his 50s who received a spinal epidural injection at Ocean State Pain Management, on Sept. 22 is being treated after seeking care on Monday at an area hospital.
Ocean State Pain Management is one of two facilities that received medication from any of three lots recalled by the now-closed New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass. The other was New England Anesthesiology, which has offices in Warwick and East Greenwich.
Other Rhode Islanders diagnosed with the illness include a woman in her 40s who checked into a hospital last week and was showing signs of improving, and a woman in her 60s who was treated at a local hospital but has since been discharged.
As of Monday, there have been 30 deaths nationwide, all linked to medications distributed by the New England Compounding Center.
