WARWICK, R.I. -- One race in Warwick remains undecided as mail ballots will determine whether incumbent Republican Ward 1 Councilman Steven Colantuono will fend off a challenge from Democrat Sharon Ahearn.
By the end of election night the two were only 29 votes apart and the Board of Canvassers said Wednesday that they are waiting for mail ballots to be counted by the state Board of Elections.
Donna McDonald, director of the Board of Canvassers said that 240 mail ballots were sent to residents in the ward, but it is not known how many were returned to the state.
Colantuono, the sole Republican on the council, said he was told by the state that it could take until Thursday for the ballots to be counted.
