PAWTUCKET -- The city has decided to go to the state Supreme Court in its fight to get rid of a police officer convicted of exposing himself.
Faced with returning Officer Nichalas Laprade back to duty, Pawtucket filed a petition Wednesday asking the Supreme Court to review a decision to deny the city's appeal by Superior Court Judge Sarah Taft-Carter.
Laprade has been suspended with pay since his arrest in 2010. Although he was convicted in February 2011, the city hasn't been able to fire him, because it missed a disciplinary hearing deadline.
The city has spent about $140,000 for Laprade's salary and benefits, and $48,350 on legal fees. It anticipates spending another $12,000 -5,000 in the case, according to information released under open-records law.
