Thanksgiving:

Cell Phones for Soldiers Drive

Southern Rhode Island Volunteers in collaboration with the Stop & Shop Supermarket in Richmond, People's Credit Union branches in Wakefield and North Kingstown and the Senior Community Center in Charlestown is conducting a used cell phone drive to support our military heroes this holiday season. Phones can be dropped off during regular business hours through the holidays. For more information, call (401) 552-7661 or (401) 789-2362.

Helping Other People in Emergencies

Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange

On Friday, Nov. 23, those in need of winter coats will be able to get them on the State House lawn in Providence, the Blackstone Valley Visitors Center, 175 Main St., Pawtucket; the Bristol Elks Lodge, 1 Constitution St.; the Cranston YMCA, 1225 Park Ave.; the Kent County YMCA, 900 Centerville Rd., Warwick; the South County YMCA, 165 Broad Rock Rd., South Kingstown, and the West Bay Family YMCA, 7540 Post Rd., North Kingstown, from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In addition, coats will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Breed Hall at the East Providence Senior Center Complex, 610 Waterman Ave., and from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Paul's Church, 12 West Marlborough St., Newport, and St. Francis Church, 114 High St., South Kingstown.

Central Falls Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner

The 8th annual dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 20 Claremont St.

Living Hope Christian Church Free Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner

Dinner will be served at the church, 730 South County Train, North Kingstown, between noon and 2 p.m. For more information and to reserve a seat, call Pastor Peter Atkin at (401) 667-0775 or e-mail pastorpeter@lhcc.info.

St. Michael's Thanksgiving Day Dinner

A partnership of St. Michael's, St. Patrick's, Amos House, McAuley House, Crossroads RI, Providence Rescue Mission and hundreds of volunteers will serve a free dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 239 Oxford St., Providence. Donations and volunteer to help serve are needed. Call Sister Ann Keefe at (401) 781-7210. Those interested helping to deliver meals can call the Providence Rescue Mission at (401) 648-6849.
