Carolyn Rafaelian, founder and majority owner of the jewelry company Alex and Ani, announced Monday that she has purchased Belcourt Castle in Newport. The price was not disclosed.

Rafaelian bought the mansion from Harle Tinney.

"I have a love affair with Newport. I've fallen completely in love with Belcourt," Rafaelian said. "I am fascinated by its rich history and roots, and it's a true honor to have the blessing from Mrs. Tinney to continue the legacy. I look forward to restoring it to its natural beauty."

After restoration and renovation by Rafaelian, the house and grounds will be renamed Belcourt of Newport and will be reopened, as it has been, for tours, weddings and charitable social events.

It has been agreed, Rafaelian said, that Mrs. Tinney will be involved in the evolution and will contribute her knowledge and experience of Newport and the manor.
