WARWICK, R.I. -- It was around 2 a.m. when troopers on radar duty on Route 95 north clocked a car at 97 mph.
They gave chase.
The driver sped away, Lt. Eric C. LaRiviere said, racing through Warwick, Cranston and Providence and eventually getting back onto Route 95. The car sideswiped a state police cruiser and barreled north, taking Route 10 before officers lost sight of it in Providence.
The authorities later located the car in a driveway on Wadsworth Street on the city's West End. The driver had fled, Lariviere said.
No one was injured.
Providence and Warwick police assisted in the chase.
Lariviere said it did not appear the chase was connected to a drive-by shooting in Cranston.
