CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) -- The final group of soldiers on a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan to provide security for provincial reconstruction efforts is set to return Friday afternoon.
Maj. Gen. Kevin McBride, head of the Rhode Island National Guard, says the soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment are scheduled to return to the Quonset Air National Guard Base at about 4 p.m.
The soldiers are the last of about 100 to return from a year in Afghanistan, where they have been providing security for Provincial Reconstruction Teams across the country.
The company is based at an armory in East Greenwich.
