PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse were among those on hand Monday to mark the opening of a new, freestanding clinic for homeless veterans at the Providence VA Medical Center on Chalkstone Ave.
"We have a profound obligation that extends through the centuries," Reed, himself a veteran, said of America's commitment to those who have served.
"We pray this be a milestone," said chaplain Dan Cottrell.
Also speaking were Jason Fencik, an Army veteran of Afghanistan; Dr. Michael Fine, head of the state Department of Health; Providence VA chief Vincent Ng; and the VA's Dr. Thomas O'Toole, a national leader in the treatment and care of homeless veterans of all wars.
