WARWICK, R.I. -- A World War II veteran killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge was honored posthumously Monday.

The family of Cpl. Frank Aldrich accepted Aldrich's Purple Heart, the Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three service stars , the Marksman Badge and Machine Gun Bar, the Sharpshooter Badge and Rifle Bar, and a WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button during a ceremony at Congressman James Langevin's office in Warwick. Langevin helped the family secure the military honors.

"This is a proud moment to be able to recognize my dad's service and bring some closure to his incredible life," said Frank Aldrich, 73, who also served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960.

Born in Central Falls, Aldrich was killed in Belgium on Dec. 23, 1944. He is buried in St. Sebastian's Cemetery in Westerly.
