WARWICK, R.I. -- As if Black Friday isn't excitement enough.
The Toys "R" Us store near the Rhode Island Mall was evacuated for a short time Friday afternoon when a defective sprinkler sprayed water and triggered a fire alarm.
Battalion Chief Joseph Greenwell said the alarm came in at 1:51 p.m. and firefighters worked about an hour, first shutting off the water valve and examining the sprinkler head, then vacuuming and squeegeeing the water that fell.
By 4:30 p.m., the store reopened, a corporate spokesman said. It will remain open until 11 p.m. Friday and reopen at 7 a.m. Saturday, a phone greeting said.
