PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A Woonsocket man convicted of a 1999 "thrill killing" is scheduled to be released on parole next month, more than 20 years before his original release date.

WPRI-TV (http://bit.ly/YkwC8e) reports Alfred Brissette shaved several years off his sentence for good behavior behind bars. The parole board tells the station that no one objected to granting him parole, including prosecutors.

A spokeswoman for the attorney general's office did not immediately return messages seeking comment. She told WPRI it's up to the parole board to use its best judgment.

Brissette pleaded no contest to murder for killing Jeanette Descoteaux and was sentenced to serve 35 years in prison. He was originally scheduled to be released in 2034.

The head of the Alliance for Safe Communities tells WPRI Brissette's parole is a travesty.
