PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Governor Chafee said on Friday that he is not considering major changes to the state Economic Development Corporation, despite a state-commissioned report calling for a major overhaul of the embattled agency, which came under fire for its handling of the 38 Studios debacle.
Chafee on Thursday named longtime EDC deputy director William J. Parsons as the new head of the agency.
"It's really the people that were making some poor decisions, rather than the structure," Chafee said at an unrelated State House event Friday. "The metrics support what I'm saying. We're seeing unemployment going in the right direction. The five economic indicators that the federal government tracks, for the first time since August 2006, were positive this October. And our revenues from income tax and sales tax are above budgeted amounts."
