PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It's official: Spogga Hash, the fire-twirling prodigy who performs as Spogga the Firedancer at WaterFire lightings, is moving to New Orleans to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter.
In postings on his website and at Kickstarter, Spogga said the move would make touring easier and help him prepare for next year's South by Southwest festival in Texas. He also said the move could come as early as next week, following a series of weekend performances at Vets Auditorium, where he's appearing as part of Saturday's 8 p.m. premiere of the documentary "WaterFire: Art and Soul of a City," and at The Spot Underground, a Providence music club.
Despite Spogga's move, WaterFire organizers say they expect him back for next year's season.
