PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A fire in an apartment building at 99 Rugby St. was confined to one room, Deputy Assistant Fire Chief James Mirza said Friday.
The call came at 3:42 p.m. for a fire on the second floor of a two-story wood-frame apartment building, part of the Williams Woods community in South Providence. Within about 20 minutes the fire was under control, Mirza said.
Although the fire caused considerable damage in that room and smoke and water damage to the building's lower floor, it did not extend to the adjoining units, Mirza said.
Three people were displaced, but they were able to find lodging with relatives, Mirza said. No one was injured.
