PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence is praising the Barrington and state police for their diligence in handling the case of Barrington Sgt. Joseph Andreozzi who is now facing a felony charge of obstructing the judicial system as well as a misdemeanor charge for cyberstalking his ex-wife.
"Through their actions, Barrington Police sent the message to domestic violence victims in Rhode Island that these crimes are serious and will be investigated -- even if the abuser is one of their own," said Deborah DeBare, the coalition's executive director, in a news release.
Andreozzi was initally arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, but those charges were upgraded when Barrington police asked the state police to investigate allegations that Andreozzi had sent threatening phone and text messages to his ex-wife.
