PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An Attleboro man missed the top prize of $587.5 million in last week's Powerball drawing, but he did claim $40,000 in winnings.
A spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Lottery said Tuesday that Jacinto Gomez, who bought his ticket in Pawtucket, claimed his prize and plans to use the money to pay for a new roof and other repairs to his house.
Rhode Island sold more than $3 million in tickets for the event, whose jackpot was the largest in history.
