PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence man has been indicted in the beating death of his eight-week-old daughter.

Christopher Jimenez, 26, of 123 Congress Ave., was arrested June 20, hours after baby Christina was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital with skull fractures, broken bones, brain swelling, and a lacerated liver. She was then five weeks old.

She was taken off life support three weeks later.

Jimenez told police that he dropped, sat on, squeezed, and banged the baby around, according to a prosecutor.

On Friday, a Providence County grand jury indicted Jimenez on two counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of second-degree murder.

Jimenez is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on Jan. 2. He is currently being held without bail.
