WEST GREENWICH -- One person was killed after a two-car crash on Route 3 here Saturday morning.
State police Trooper Stephen Flood said that a Nissan driving north on Route 95 exited at Route 6 in West Greenwich and bore right, crossing Route 3. The Nissan struck an sport-utility vehicle that was heading north on Route 3.
The SUV burst into flames. The driver and the front-seat passenger escaped the truck but the passenger riding in the back seat was killed. The other people involved in the crash were taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, Flood said.
Route 3 was partially closed for 45 minutes, from 11:15 to noon.
Flood said the cause of the accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed. Police did not release the names of those involved in the accident.
