WARWICK, R.I. -- The last meeting of theRhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education will be at 5:30 tonight at the Community College of Rhode Island, in accordance with a new state law that eliminates the board at the end of this month.
The Office of Higher Education will also be abolished in 2014.
A new state Education Board that will oversee K-12 and the public colleges will go into effect in January 2013.
Chairman Lorne Adrain is expected to discuss the financial impact of the board's decision to allow undocumented students to receive in-state tuition at CCRI, Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island -- a decision that angered some lawmakers.
