PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Foundation Tuesday awarded $300,000 in emergency grants to four social service agencies.
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank and Crossroads Rhode Island received $100,000 each. The Good Neighbor Energy Fund and Westerly Area Rest Meals (WARM) Center received $50,000 each.
Agency leaders say more Rhode Islanders this year are seeking shelter, money for utilities and food.
"As the economic recovery remains sluggish, too many Rhode Islanders are homeless, don't have enough to eat, and lack the resources to heat their homes," said Foundation President and CEO Neil Steinberg. "These grants, made possible through the generosity of our donors, represent investments in successful programs that have a positive impact on people's lives."
