WEST GREENWICH, R.I. -- A suspected drunk driver has been arrested on charges he fled the scene of two crashes Monday night before slamming into a gasoline pump.
The driver, identified by the police as 43-year-old Chamb Meehan of Leominster, Mass., is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in District Court on charges of assault on two officers, driving while under the influence of alcohol, refusal to take a chemical test, leaving the scene of an accident, and multiple motor vehicle violations, Cpl. Keith Laliberte said.
Laliberte said Meehan, who was driving a car registered to his girlfriend, struck two cars before driving into the Shell gas station on Route 3 and hitting a gas pump at 10:50 Monday night. He then fought two officers, injuring one of them, Laliberte said. That officer was treated at Kent Hospital.
