OLD LYME, Conn. -- A Warwick man traveling the wrong way on Route 95 in Connecticut crashed into an on-coming car, killing three women, the Connecticut State Police said.

The crash happened just after 9 Tuesday night on Route 95 south, south of exit 70.

The authorities say Frank Sundstrom, 51, of 89 Naussauket Rd. in Warwick, was driving north on the southbound lanes when his 2000 Oldsmobile Alero crashed head-on against a 2007 Nissan Maxima registered to Tamara Nolin, 71, of Branford, Conn. Nolin, Marjorie Minore, 90, of North Haven and Barbara Prato, 63, of East Haven were killed in the crash. Prato was Minore's daughter, according to Connecticut's WTNH-News 8.

Sundstrom was airlifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital's Saint Raphael Campus with an "incapacitating injury," according to a police report. His condition could not be updated Wednesday morning.

A woman who answered Sundstrom's home telephone number Wednesday afternoon said the family had no comment at this time.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Connecticut State Police Troop F at (860) 399-2100.

An earlier version of this report by WPRI-Channel 12 was posted at 12:51 p.m.
