PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A local one-man crime wave came to a sudden halt Saturday, moments after committing his fifth robbery in a month, according to the Providence police.

Steven G. Carrion, 34, of 98 Lenox Ave., is accused of robbing a 7-Eleven in Olneyville, the Mi Quisqueya Meat Market in South Providence, and a Shell gas station, Family Dollar store and Crugnale Bakery in the Valley neighborhood.

The most recent was Saturday's robbery of Mi Quisqueya, on Broad Street. Within the hour, Sgt. Curt Desautels and Officer Louis Gianfrancesco caught Carrion a few blocks away. After questioning him, detectives linked Carrion to the five robberies.

Carrion, who already has a lengthy criminal record, is being held on surety bail on five second-degree robbery charges.
