Sam Finneran, his family, and the congressman
Congressman Jim Langevin has nominated two Rhode Island high school seniors to two military service academies.
As recommended by his advisory board, Langevin has nominated Toll Gate High School's Nina Yu for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and North Kingstown High School's Sam Finneran for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Langevin recognizes Nina's academic, athletic and musical achievements, according to the news release, which states she hopes to pursue a medical career after West Point.
Langevin cites Sam's achievements in academics, debate, and music as well as his interests in leadership and service, according to the news release.
All 17- to 23-year-old residents of the 2nd District are eligible to apply. Next year's submissions are due by the end of October.
