NEWPORT, R.I. -- The city is looking for a new manager for the antique center housed in the old armory on the Newport waterfront.
Monday is the deadline for bidders to submit sealed proposals for leasing and management of the center, which takes up the armory's main floor. Antiques dealers sell their wares on the floor, which opens to Lower Thames Street. The operation is overseen by the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation, which has an office on the landmark building's second floor.
The city is looking for someone else to manage the center until it develops a long-term plan for the building.
In May, the city opened the public Maritime Center in the armory's basement level, which opens to the water.
