A year ago today:
A cat that lived in the area of Birch Road in Smithfield dies of rabies. At least 20 people and a dog may have been exposed to the cat. Eleven people have been treated with rabies vaccine.

A US Airways Express flight, carrying 31 passengers and 3 crew members slides off a T.F. Green Airport runway, bringing incoming and outgoing flights to a halt on a day that saw 5.6 inches of snow fall at the airport. No one was hurt.

John J. Tuohy, chairman of the state Ethics Commission, dies after a pedestrian accident on Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, in which a business colleague was fatally injured.
