The state of Rhode Island has suspended the license of a nurse practitioner, Gerald Dornhecker, after he failed to quarantine products from the New England Compounding Center, the Massachusetts pharmacy whose contaminated drugs led to a nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak.

Dornhecker owns Skin Essentials, in North Providence, a spa offering cosmetic treatments such as Botox shots, laser hair removal and chemical peels.

A state inspector found recalled products in a treatment room -- two months after the products had been recalled and a month after a Food and Drug Administration inspector had instructed Dornhecker to remove them.

The Board of Nursing Registration and Nursing Education on Wednesday voted unanimously to suspend Dornhecker's license for six months and require him to submit procedures ensuring his business will obey regulations.
