CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- Mayor-elect James A. Diossa, fresh off a resounding win in last week's special mayoral election, announced on Thursday that he has formed an advisory council comprised of five volunteer groups that will focus on economic development, quality of life, education, public safety and arts and tourism.

The chairpersons of the council are Patricia Martinez, executive director for the Center for Family Support and Student Development for Central Falls Public Schools; Dr. Pablo Rodriguez, an OB-GYN physician and medical professor at Brown University and state Sen. Elizabeth A. Crowley, D-Central Falls.

Among the 50 volunteers are a number of prominent figures in law enforcement, public service, education and business community.

The council's first meeting is Dec. 27 at 4 p.m. at Ella Risk Elementary Schools. It will meet twice a month during Diossa's first 100 days in office.
