PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Snow, sleet, rain and high winds.

Depending on how far north you live in Rhode Island, some or all of the above are in the forecast for you, according to the National Weather Service.

A high wind watch is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday evening for the state. East winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 60 mph possible.

A winter weather advisory for northwest Rhode Island has been issued from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Friday, which means heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain are on the way. Snow accumulations could range from 2 to 5 inches in that area. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph are predicted, with gusts up to 35 mph.

Slippery driving conditions are expected on untreated surfaces, and visibility will be diminished during heavy snow. Above right, in a RIDOT Webcam photo taken at 7:03 p.m., the intersection of Routes 1 and 78 in Westerly is already showing a covering of snow.

Power failures are also possible. To report an outage, contact National Grid at 1-800-465-1212.

Rainy, windy weather is expected to continue into Thursday.
