PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- It's one thing when the robbers know you just cashed a check.

It's something else when they ask for you by name.

Hours after Paul Bernacki, 44, cashed a $4,000 check in Attleboro on Wednesday and settled in with his girlfriend at a friend's place to drink beer, three men in ski masks arrived and demanded the money at gunpoint.

Bernacki gave them the cash, and the men fled 12 Poirier St., said Maj. Arthur Martins.

Bernacki and his friend, Eric Capron, 43, had told others about the money -- including the friend of a friend who drove them to the check-cashing place, according to the police.

The police ask anyone with information to call Pawtucket Detective Donti Rosiciti at (401) 727-9100, ext. 737.
