PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Route 195 Redevelopment District Commission chose not to vote Monday night on whether to sell a small portion of the former highway land to Brown University and instead requested more information about a potential land transaction.
Commissioners also told Chairman Colin P. Kane they were unprepared to contract with engineering firm Fuss & O'Neill for additional work outside of that firm's initial $250,000 contract.
The potential land sale to Brown involves a 2,345-square-foot strip of vacant land adjacent to Brown's new Continuing Education facility, at 198-200 Dyer St. Brown recently completed a $5-million renovation there.
The university has been in "continuing negotiations" with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation over the purchase of that vacant land, according to a letter from DOT Director Michael P. Lewis to the 195 Commission.
