Two Rhode Island congressional delegation members called "encouraging" a senators' bipartisan blueprint for immigration reform. The plan, announced Monday, makes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants contingent upon tighter border security.
"This bipartisan framework could help build momentum, but it won't mean much if it isn't followed up with legislative action," said Senator Jack Reed.
"It won't be easy, but we have an opportunity to create a stronger and more effective immigration system that is balanced and fair and strengthens America's economic competitiveness," Reed said. "Now is the time to act."
Congressman James Langevin said, "The current immigration system has long been unacceptable for economic, security and humanitarian reasons. I'm encouraged by the cooperation that has gone into the senators' framework, which deals with our most important immigration challenges."
